Winter Break 2020
Are you wondering how you are going to survive winter break this year? What are you going to do while your children don’t have school for two weeks? This year will definitely be different with the current restrictions in place around the country. Winter break may require a little more creativity this year to help keep your kids active and entertained. The age of your children will also impact your planning, but there are a few things to keep in mind for all children this year.
· Have a mix of both active and calming activities so that your children get a balance.
· Calming activities: reading, board games, arts and crafts, movie night
· Active: neighborhood walks, indoor obstacle course, GoNoodle (free app)
· Movie Night with popcorn
· Have older children plan a family activity night
· Back cookies or cook a meal together
It is important to remember that everything has been different this year with the pandemic and this can cause different reactions and responses from your children. Remember to talk with them about what is happening and how they are feeling. Ask them what they want to do over break and if they have any ideas of how to make it fun this year.
While you may be concerned about having a lot of fun and creative activities to keep everyone happy, you don’t have to have them all the time. Children just want to spend time with you and it doesn’t have to be something big and new. It could be something as simple as playing a game together or reading a book with them.
